Internationally celebrated trumpeter, Ben Egan is a versatile freelance trumpet player based in the Oklahoma City metro area and a dedicated student at the University of Oklahoma (OU), where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Music (BM) in Trumpet Performance. Under the guidance of esteemed mentors Dr. Ricky Spears, Dr. Karl Sievers, Dr. Lacey Phelps, and Dr. Douglas Lindsey, Ben continues to hone his craft as a lifelong student of the trumpet, sharing his expertise by teaching private trumpet lessons to students of all ages and skill levels.

Ben has achieved notable success at major music competitions, including a 2nd Place finish in the High School Ensemble Division and a semi-finalist in the High School Solo Division at the National Trumpet Competition in 2019. Additionally, Ben was a semi-finalist in the Large Ensemble Division at NTC in 2024. 

​

His international experience includes performing with the Mantzaros Philharmonic at the International Corfu Trumpet Festival and serving as a guest performer at the International Police Association (IPA) Concert in Monfalcone, Italy, where he performed in the world premiere of the IPA hymn that will be played in various locations in over 60 countries. Ben is also an active member of the International Trumpet Guild, having performed at the 2023 conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

At the University of Oklahoma, Ben has held principal trumpet positions with both the OU Wind Symphony and the OU Symphony Orchestra. He has been a key player in various ensembles, including the Jazz O and the OU Summer Jazz Collective, where he has had the opportunity to collaborate with notable artists such as Chad LB and Steve Weist. His work with the Requiem Brass Quintet, New Century Ensemble, and the OU Trumpet Ensemble further highlights his versatility across the realm of chamber music.

One of Ben’s greatest passions is playing Broadway productions. Ben's theater credits include lead trumpet roles in local productions of Mary Poppins, Fiddler on The Roof, and Be More Chill. He has also made significant contributions to recordings, featured on albums like Ogygia and Cube of Light with the University of Oklahoma Wind Symphony.

Ben has performed with world-renown musicians including Robert ‘Sput’ Searight, John Daversa, Adam Neely, Shayna Steele, David Cook, Nikki Glaspie, Mauro Maur, and Françoise de Clossey. He was also a member of the D-Day 80th Anniversary Collegiate Mass Band and has received accolades such as the International Police Association Certificate of Compliance and the State Superintendent’s Award for Arts Excellence.

When he’s not playing trumpet, Ben likes to create music using various DAWs, learn new skills, exercise, read, and watch football.
